the Beach House Family trips began in 2010 but the “family” has grown, shrunk and grown again over the years. Our first beach trip was Memorial Day weekend 2010. It was the Gills, the Treeshs and us.
In 2011 we pushed the trip to Labor day weekend because Coe and Thaxton Treesh needed a few more months of growing before we headed to the beach. We also added the Phillips to the group. Unfortunately this was the year a tropical storm also joined us on our trip. 8 adults and 9 kids {with 3 being under the age of 1} stuck in a house with nonstop rain was…well let’s just say we made the best of it!
Not sure if it was the tropical storm or too much fun spending 3 days locked in a house with all the kids, but the Treeshs never came on another beach trip after 2011 :( In 2012 we moved the trip back to Memorial Day weekend when the chance for a tropical storm was much lower! At some point after this trip, Eliza started calling us “the Gillips” by combining all our last names!
In 2013 we were firmly established as the Gillips!
And then by 2014 we finally solidified the Gillips <3 with the final addition to the group – the Hart family.
For 2015 I had my {real} cousin make us a logo which I had put on cups for all the adults. They were a big hit!
The Gillips <3 – Beach House Family!
I love my “real” extended family more than anything in this world. Our Beach House Family by no means replaces them, but they are a great group of friends who treat us like family {good and bad!}. It takes a village to raise kids in today’s world, and I couldn’t be happier with the village we have surrounding us! I’m looking forward to many more years on the beach with this crew.
