Christmas Cookies

I had planned to make fudge and date nut balls for some of our neighbors, so I enlisted Mac’s and Coe’s help.  They insisted on making cookies for Santa and had minimal interest in the date nut balls.  As flour flew, sprinkles scattered the floor and icing was smeared on the counter tops, I briefly thought about the check I had just written Mrs. Sylvia for cleaning the house.  Oh well…tis the season to not care about messes!

Although Mac had a great time making and decorating the cookies, Copeland was in hog heaven.  He licked off the icing faster than we could get it on the cookies, and he had no problem slopping more icing and sprinkles on top of the cookie he had licked clean!  The end result was a messy kitchen, a plateful of cookies (some of which had a few bites out of them) and two very happy little boys.  Mommy was admittedly happy as well!

Caesar and the Star

Mac has been quite the thespian the past few weeks.  He was one of only a few kids from the Kindergarten class to have a part in the school Christmas program, and then the church asked him to be the star in the Christmas Eve children’s service.

In the school play he was Caesar.  I was all excited that he had a part and kept asking what he was doing in the play.  He could never remember the name of his character but knew he was “the president and I tell everyone what to do.  I’m in charge.”  Based on that description I knew they chose the right kid for the role.  Eventually he broke the news to us that he didn’t actually speak during the play.  “All I do it point.”  Well we all thought he was the best pointer in the show!

A few days later we were back in the front row watching our star be the star!  Despite his constant complaint that his costume was “terrible”, I thought he shone.

Whirlwind Weekend

Last weekend was literally a whirlwind.  Friday night was the firm party, Saturday Mac had two birthday parties back to back, then we all went to the downtown Christmas parade followed by supper club.  I got a handful of pictures but was generally too busy running around like a chicken with my head cut off to pull my camera out.

IMG_4550ps IMG_4568 IMG_4572 IMG_4582 Sunday we had Breakfast with Santa at PCC followed by the Santa Party at Betsy Daniels’ house.  in the middle of all that we missed Beckett’s 2nd birthday party b/c we just couldn’t be at 3 places at the same time!  Breakfast with Santa has become an annual tradition with the Velianitis boys and this year was no exception.  We had a great time and got a few cute pics.

I got a few pictures at Betsy’s but not many.  It wasn’t due to lack of effort but more a result of uncooperative subjects.  Hopefully Richie got a few good pics of the kids in Santa’s lap.

Despite everyone being exhausted Monday morning, we loved almost every minute of our crazy busy weekend!

This is one of my favorite pictures of the day.  As you can tell from the other pictures of Coe with Santa, he is not a fan.  He doesn’t cry when he gets near Santa but he refuses to smile.  Finley on the other hand made it very clear that she is not a fan of Santa.  I can just hear the thoughts running through Coe’s head here…look Fin I don’t like the guy either but why are you causing such a scene?
