He’s 5!

Mac is finally 5 and very proud of it!  We have been counting down the days until his birthday since about Christmas.  He reminded me all week that on his birthday he didn’t have to share any of his toys.  I constantly corrected him – he wouldn't have to share any of his new toys for that day only.

The boys always open their presents from each other on the morning of their birthdays b/c waiting to open presents until mommy and daddy get home from work would probably cause Miss Katie to quit is just too hard on a kid.  In what I thought was wonderful planning, I ordered Mac a set of two foam swords and shields for Copey to give him for his birthday.  That way they could play together and not fight over the present.  Mac immediately started fighting pretend bad guys after opening the present while I confusingly ripped through the tissue paper looking for the other sword and shield.

I grabbed the package (which clearly shows two swords and two shields) and discovered in very small fine print “package contains only 1 of each item”.  What?!?!  Exactly what I was trying to avoid immediately came true – the boys started fighting over the sword.  Thankfully Aunt Nancy had mailed Mac a present a few days earlier, so I let him open that one as well.  New baby dinosaurs and a dinosaur book saved our morning!

We took marked Mac’s height on the growth chart and took a birthday pic with Miss Katie who gave Mac “exactly what I wanted” – Power Rangers Movie and Star Wars Legos.  I came home to a very happy 5 year old boy that afternoon!  IMG_9019IMG_4077IMG_4076  IMG_9011 IMG_9014  IMG_9031

Aunt Forrest, Uncle Ed and Finley came over for birthday dinner and cupcakes.  Mac finally got to open the rest of his presents and was excited that Aunt Forrest’s gift had a theme of Super Heroes and Star Wars.

Along with Legos, clothes, and Star Wars junk stuff, we gave Mac new golf clubs.  He was very excited to receive them and told Katie the next day that he loved his new golf clubs “to the tippy top of God just like his mom and dad.”  Hey buddy, we love you all the way to the tippy top of God and back!  Happy 5th birthday.

We celebrated Mac’s birthday again the following night at Yaya’s house after swim lessons.  He got more presents; we sang Happy Birthday; and we had his favorite carrot cake cupcakes.  I failed to take any pictures.  Oops.

Two days later, G and Deeda came to town and we celebrated Mac’s birthday for the 3rd time in 4 days.  He was excited to receive even more presents and have cupcakes in his honor for the 3rd time!  The Imaginext dinosaur from Aunt Abbie and Uncle Barry was a big hit!  So was the Joker’s house from G and Deeda.

Mac has played with all of his birthday presents a lot.  generally there is one favorite toy and a few that never get looked at again after opening.  Not this year.  Everyone hit the nail on the head and thankfully Mac and I have already found an assigned basket for each of the new toys to reside.  We I love an organized playroom!

Next up the 4th and final 5yr old birthday celebration for Mac – his birthday party!
