Gilmers’ Beach Retreat

We wrapped up the summer with a week long trip to Orange Beach with the whole Gilmer crew.  Its the first time in several years that we have all been on a beach trip together, and as you will see in the pictures everyone had a great time.  The girls were a little disappointed that we never had a good “wave” day to put their surfing skills to the test, but the boys were perfectly happy with the pint sized swells.  Despite a few pesky jellyfish, we managed to enjoy a lot of time in the water {with the temps often over 100F cooling off in the water was a must!}.  Coe admittedly enjoyed the pool much more than the beach, but he managed to find plenty to do at both locations!

Basketball Camp

Mac LOVED this camp.  I have never seen one person have this much control over 100+ kids.  when Coach Boes blew his whistle they froze.  When he spoke you could hear a pin drop.  the discipline and self control he taught the kids was more important than any drill.  I doubt Mac has a long term career in basketball, but as long as he loves the sport he will be going to Coach Boes summer camp.  He learned a lot more than just basketball which made this mommy very happy!

Blue Angels

A few weekends ago the Blue Angels hometown Pensacola crowd geared up for what was sure to be another thrilling air show.  They always do a practice show on Thurs and Friday and the real show on Saturday. Due to the high popularity for Saturday’s show and the limited number  of parking places, you have to head to the beach (via boat or car) at a ridiculously early hour to make the 2pm Saturday show.  We therefore go to the practice show on Friday (which is essentially identical to the Sat show)  and Papou and Gigi reserve us a parking spot at their condo.  Its a great deal!  We watch the show from their balcony with the added convenience of a bathroom and air conditioner while we wait for the planes to arrive.  This year was Finley’s first time to see the Blues and I’d say by the expression I caught when they first showed up, she was impressed!

If you are wondering where Albi is in all the pictures, he was at Pebble Beach in California on a guys golf trip.  As great as the Blues were, I’m kind of thinking he got the better deal this time around :)
