Mac
Mac: Deeda you have to quit smoking or you’ll get a hole in your throat. And then you can't take a bath or water will get in the hole and you’ll choke.
Conversation with mommy:
RRG: where do you think Yaya is this morning (Q asked after she didn’t answer when we called her)
Mac: I think she is at the pet store
RRG: Really what is she doing there?
Mac: buying a pet
RRG: what kind of pet is Yaya buying
Mac: a snake. Remember that snake we saw at my birthday party. She was a nice snake and she will still be nice when she grows up big, right? I think Yaya is buying her for me.
Text from my babysitter:
Miss A(waking Mac up from a much needed nap): Mac rise and shine its time to get ready for your birthday party.
Mac: before I get ready I have to save all the ant eaters.
Miss A: ohh yeah?
Mac: Miss Ashley you just don’t understand. I am going to save the world today.
For probably over a year now we have used various reward/discipline systems with Mac where he can earn a surprise at the end of the week if he has me the goal on the reward chart. Mac almost always chooses to earn a new animal. A few weeks ago Aunt Forrest picked Mac up from school. When they got to Yaya’s house, Mac noticed that Coe had a new truck. He asked why and Yaya said Coe had been using such good manners (he is very good at saying peas (please) and tan tu (thank you)) that he earned a new truck. The next week the same thing happened, but this time when Mac saw Coe with a new truck he ran to him and said, “Way to go buddy. You were so good you earned another truck. High Five!” I was so glad to hear that Mac wasn’t at all jealous. He was proud of his little brother. Yesterday when Mac and I were talking I asked him if he thought Copeland would want a new truck from Santa or a small tool bench (Mac has asked for a large tool bench). Mac replied, “Copey has been so good I think Santa should bring him both.” Hope this love for one another lasts forever!
Copeland
Coe has all the sudden started talking a ton. He finally says his own name and writing about it doesn’t do it justice. To hear him say “Coe” in that sweet little voice is the most precious thing. His favorite saying is “turn it up” – this is said every time we get in the car or when I dare to turn the radio down a little so I can hear the conversations going on in the car. Last week when Miss Katie was putting Copeland down for a nap, she turned on his Sleep Lamb to the heartbeat noise. As she walked out of his room he whispered, “turn it up peas (please).”
My favorite part of the day is coming home. Copeland jumps up from' whatever he is doing and runs to me as fast as he can with outstretched arms, saying, “mommy home, mommy home.” Mac often follows to make sure Coe doesn’t get more hugs than he does!
Coe has also learned how to hug recently. For the longest time if you said give me a hug, he would lean into you, but he never squeezed. Now he squeezes back as hard as he can, and it is the best feeling!
Last week Katie text me to say Coe was in his high chair, eating lunch, and talking to himself. He would say, “wanna bite?” Then he would respond to himself, “yes,” and give himself a bite. I sure hope Copeland isn’t about to introduce us to an imaginary friend. Mac still has John and Ran (going on 2 years now!) so Copeland is going to have to take on one of them. I can’t handle another imaginary person to ask about every night at dinner!
You sure do have a full house with all the imaginary friends and animals on top of the humans that live there, too! :) How do you manage it all?!
