I can’t believe its been almost 2 weeks since the big winter storm covered the southeast. I’ll admit I thought the forecasters were making a big to do about nothing and I questioned the intellect of whoever made the call on Monday afternoon to cancel school on Tuesday and Wednesday. Shouldn’t they at least wait and see how Tuesday is before they cancel on Wednesday? As the snow came down quickly and unexpectedly in Birmingham and Atlanta, I changed my tune. I had plenty of family and friends who couldn’t get to their kids b/c of the icy roads and others who slept at work, schools and restaurants after getting stranded in the storm. I on the other hand left work early on Tuesday to avoid the ice and spent all afternoon and the next day and a half at home with my favorite people!
I surprised Mac and picked up Jack on the way home Tuesday. The boys kept looking for snow and went to bed a little disappointed. Unbeknownst to them the flakes started falling and the ice formed as Albi and I headed to bed. The next morning the boys got their jackets on, grabbed socks to use as gloves, pulled hats on their heads and headed to the backyard. There wasn’t much snow but when you live in Florida anything cold and white on the ground is exciting! Plus there was enough ice to form icicles on the toys and a fun slippery layer on the trampoline and slide.
The Star Wars battles continued in the yard until mommy was about to freeze her fingers off and daddy enticed everyone inside with hot chocolate. No surprise, Mac put about 3 ice cubes in his b/c it was “way too hot!'”
I made the big boys do a little school work before they headed out for another ice battle. Overall it was a great few days at home, but it was nice to get back to our 60 degree weather a few days later. I don’t know how people up north do it all winter!
