Christmas morning was truly magical despite the very early start! Mac was put to bed with strict instructions not to leave his room when he awoke but instead to call for us over the monitor. Despite my concerns he did exactly as told…at 5:45am! I quickly weighed the pros and cons of waking Coe up this early after he had already gone to bed later than usual. Albi and I agreed he would get Mac and bring him to our room {eyes closed tight the whole time} to snuggle while we let everyone else sleep a little longer. Shockingly Mac agreed with very little resistance and stayed in bed with us until 7. {We bribed him with tv}
At 7 we woke up Aunt Forrest, Uncle Ed and Copey. Copey is not a morning person and despite the excitement of Christmas still didn’t quite understand that he was being woken up in order to see what Santa had brought him. Mac on the other hand was bubbling over with excitement and anticipation. Despite being up for over an hour, I still didn’t have my brand new camera ready to capture their faces as they ran into the playroom. I preferred instead to watch them myself and try to snap pictures when I could.
They were both shocked, amazed, and Coe was a little scared when they ran in the playroom and saw all that Santa had left. Excitement soon took over and they were calling out to each other constantly to come see the latest toy they had noticed in their pile. Despite the mini cooper being Coe’s big gift, he didn’t warm up to it for an hour or two. Matter of fact he wouldn’t get in it or even acknowledge it, but later in the morning when everyone was doing their own thing I caught him climbing in. It wasn’t long before he and Mac were zooming around the backyard in it. Santa brought Mac exactly what he wanted – Star Wars everything! Amazingly Santa was also able to make a “dirty Lightening McQueen” and a “Red Go Go Power Ranger” to fulfill Copey’s request as well.
Yaya, Costie, Nana, Granddaddy and Finley (she fell asleep on Christmas Eve at Yaya’s and ended up staying there for the night to ensure she wasn’t awoken at the crack of dawn by her cousins!) showed up around 9:30 for brunch, more present opening and lots of quality family time. We watched the new Mac and Coe show; ate a lot of food and enjoyed seeing all the kids play great with their new toys and with each other. Mac’s favorite present was the Star Wars lego set from his little brother, and Coe said his was the lightsaber toothbrush from his stocking :) Mine was seeing the joy on their faces all day long. The day was perfect.
